    I just modded a brand-new "5B" model in Canada,
and it looks just like the old V12 outside, complete
with the 56K modem part, but on the board level,
the components have been rearranged, and the
part normally where I installed the "summone" fix,
those little parts are NOT 33k or 64k, they are
96k, so I didn't add the fix, and everything is
working fine for hours with no burnout.

The board was marked GH035-72. First time I
    see that model number.

Maybe a pre-V13 but still with the 56K modem.

That would means sony had some official Laser burnout fix on V12 circulating. But that would bascially means it is a v13 with Modem?

automan has done a very good test which tells us that sony has its own fix for the slim PS2 regarding the laser burn out issue; the mechcon still crashes in V13 but laser is safe. the interesting thing is that if the modchip was the only cause that triggered the mechcom crash which in turn burns out the laser coils, sony would be happy to see that and would not bother a fix. back a while ago, mod team like magic chip claimed that their magic KX chip is 100% laser safe was just lame.

maybe no chip is safe to the vulnerable PS2 like v9-v12 untill we know the exactly cause of mechcon crash with/without modchip involved. at this stage, summone fix (resistor fix on tracking and focusing, or combination of resistor fix and muting) , comsoft PIC fix are the only solution.

I'm a firm believer that the way the modchip is installed plays a part too.....messy installs(long wires, not laid flat, etc) are more likely to cause a crash than a neat, precision job.

so this mean we don't need to add summ0ne resistor fix on the v13?? which is 4.7k/4.7k. Do we still need this fix on V13?
    Modded a V13(01d=100kohm) with 1 only 4.7Kohm resistor-picked up HK silvers,dvd-r(ritek) & cd-r's well.

Just for the record, I have repaired several 50K that had never been opened before me and never modified that had the coils and LA chip burned up so it is not just mod chips that cause this mechacon crash. I?m sure some Mods do increase the risk in one way or another but they are not the sole cause.
