Power light stays red –
11-11-2006,09:14 PM
OK, so I'm new to PS2's (just in time for the PS3!!), and I haven't even begun to mod this one yet because it's broke, which is why it's in my possession -- I got it for free.
What happens is the instant I plug the power into the wall socket, the power light comes on and stays red. Nothing else happens. Discs don't spin up. It's a slim design, so the eject button doesn't do anything but pop the lid.
The power/reset button itself feels like it's not connecting with anything so my first thought is that the switch is busted.
Is this worth fixing? Am I looking at a failed board, or just a fuse/switch? Any thoughts?

Well if you got it free its worth fixing, or atleast trying..
First try opeining it up (you have nothing to lose at this point right?)
And see whats up.. I know the reset/eject cables go bad easily (i have 3 dead right now..)
one of my ps2s is doing this .. except i get nothing (not even the drive poping open) though i am too poor to buy another cable right now... even though they are only 10 dollars or so

lol STOP RIGHT THERE! Don't open it. The slimline doesn't turn "off" completely is only goes to standby mode (Red Light on) if you want it off completely you have to unplug the adapter. There is nothing wrong with it. If you press the power/reset button and it goes green it's fine. If you press and hold it then it goes to standby mode (red light on) also fine.
