ooo son! disc read error with the fat ps2

Hey!I'm new here and i have a delema. I had a disc read error for 3 years. Last year I sent it to my local game store to be fixed because when I called the guy said that he will fix dre's for free. When I get there he says that I have to pay. Whatever. Two weeks later he sends it back saying that they were ants in the system (total lie). Anywhoo... I put it away....until now. Yesterday I was searchin on youtube and I find out how to fix it. I crack it open and I see 1 extra big screw and the white wire gone

. Is that normal??? I didn't get my ps2 when it just came out but it doesn't seem right. Is it possible that he fixed it and slipped it to me for free

? When I tried to open the disc tray to clean the lens it wouldn't open so i'm going to try it tomorrow. Thanks for all your posts because I need your help dudes!!! and dudettes!!!!!!

OOO... I started to notice the dre while playing GTA:SA and it completely sopped reading all discs while I was playing PSI-Ops. Yes... this happened a while back.
