    Hi guys,

    Just sharing.

Some time ago I bought a PS2 Slim (slimline) SCPH-79001 console.

Then I connected my console to an HDTV set by a composite cable and everything was fine (i.e. within the expect limits of quality of such connection).

But as soon as I tried connect my console to an HDTV set by a component cable (the YPbPr one) in order to improve the quality I was surprised by an irritating video noise and sometimes worse: a "no signal" video issue.

I thought, my console and/or my component cable were(was) the culprit(s)! But... I was wrong.

The culprit, in fact, it was a unbranded = second class = cheap = low profile = PS2 Slim AC adaptor I had, which wasn't delivering the enough and proper amperage... Maybe it was doing even worse: Delivering an unstable amperage (I haven't a multimeter, so I can't assure you this, just infere).

Well, my problems has gone as soon as I got an used Original Sony PS2 Slim AC adaptor SCPH-79100 (which delivers the proper 8,5 V DC and 4,5 A to my console).

Summarizing: Avoid problems/headaches for your SCPH-7xxxxx PS2 slim models by enpowering them with an Original Sony PS2 Slim AC adaptor like SCPH-79100 I own or the SCPH-70100 one (but pay attention, there are defective ones around there that should be recalled by Sony PlayStation®2 AC Adaptor Replacement Program - PlayStation.com).

    Hope this help someone.

    BR,

I had a similar issue with a crappy no-name copy PSU and a SCPH-77004. There was A LOT of video noise when using composite, a little noise (only against bright backgrounds) when using RGB, but no noticable problem when using component.
With an original PSU, picture was fine with all cables.

Should note that the shitty PSU also was very light, very thin cables, etc. Shitty throughout!

Unfortunatelly I bought a replacement 79100 PSU for my 77004, and just noticed that the 79100 is weaker than the 70100 (4.5A vs 5.65A). I don't want to fry the PSU so I guess I'll go get a third one :/
