I have a question or thought kinda. My friend says that i can put anylaser into my ps2 and itll work and it doesnt have to be the official ps2 laser. Is this true or am i stuck with my dead beat laser? Could i take it out of my dvd player and put it into my ps2 and itll read all my games again? I was also wondering is there a specific type of laser like a dvd laser or cd laser. Or is a laser just a laser? Could i take any laser and swap it for the ps2's and if so how would i go about doing that without braking the ps2?

If this was possible don't you think some chinese company would not be selling new lasers for us at half the price ?

The bad thing about the PS2 DVD laser is that it's protodiodes (the receiver part) is custom, due to the copy protecion sense mechanism They have a slightly diferent placement than standard lasers, which make difficult to use standard lasers on the PS2... Maybe with a lot of adaptation and a Modchip it would be useable...

Maybe interesting to try a pvr slimline laser in the old thick ps2 with some modifications for the laser position switch , mounting, eeprom update etc.
The slimline laser is much cheaper, brandnew and refurbished KHS-400C lasers have to much problems.

I think there's a version of the european console which uses the slimline laser (the eletrical circuit is the same, but mechanically it look a bit like the HD7 laser) I think people call that V11. I've seen it only twice I think

I have been whishing some one would developed this type of mod for years now. Like l_oliveira said the PS2 lasers are one of a kind. Unlike the Xbox which uses pretty much just a PC DVD-ROM with a custom bios.
