Non fitting IDE HDD on NA

Is it possible to use an power extension cable and an IDE cable with added pins from maybe a broken mainboard to make a non fitting HDD work with the network adapter outside of the PS2? Of course the cables would be squeezed a little or if you make a little room somehow...
