new mod tweeking?

i have a new old style ps2 modded with lame duo. and it makes a lame tapping sound from the cd and then always goes to the set time and date stuff in the browser like it were the first time being turned on? the hd loads up some times if that dont happen first then it wont ever load the hd cd?

any thoughts on what i may need to replace?

Try cleaning your laser with Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-Tip.

returning to the setup modus means something is wrong
I Quess it is a short on your dvdcontroller because when you short one of those to grnd you get the fist setup modus

Like Mabcom said, theres a problem with your modchip cuz the settings are stored on a eeprom memory. The DVD controller chip (mechacon) controls that memory. If theres a problem with it the PS2 will be asking for the setup every time you turn it on. Also theres a risk you fry the laser as the settings for the laser current and type are on that eeprom ....

well my kids still play it for hours when they can get it to load usually by the third time , but i would like to get it fixed ( a new modchip i guess). anyone know a trusted place to send it?

if it is working after several attemps it is possible that one of the wires is between the metalshield or a screw damaged a wire

in that case it is not needed to replace your chip but fix the wire
if you are a bit handy open op your ps2 and becarefull check the wires

i have no idea where you are located but if you live in europe you can send it to me for a checkup ,
