So I bought a new PS2 Laser off of ebay. It was stated as new. I replaced an R type with a 400c laser via ps2lenschanger (forgoing the backing up of my eeprom, don't know how bad this is going to hurt me at this point, but anyway). I had to lower the cd pot 100ohms to get PS1 media to read.
Anyways, the laser was working 100% flawlessly. Awesome boots and loads, dvd and cd. That was 2 months ago. I haven't played the PS2 in about 2 months, it has been lying there dormant. I tried to play a game today, and none of my cd media would boot, at ALL. I then tried dvd media and I was getting intermittent dre's and occasional red screens.WTF? What happened? Can somebody tell me? Is that even possible for a laser to go from working to non-working without even being used? What happened. I really really need your help.
So I got frustrated a little bit. In the process, I tried putting back in my original R type laser to try isolate the problem. I managed to break the holding pin for the cable, and sticky up the cable so now nothing will even read. I've already got a dvd cable on the way, which I hope will get me back to square one. If that doesn't get me back to square one with the "new" 400c then I might have to buy yet another NEW laser, if such a thing exists. Could someone advise me on course of action now? I gummed up my old R connector trying to Epoxy the connector back together.....I think this is what screwed me. Yes, I know very dumb. The epoxy got inside the cable connector and on the connector itself. It now won't even spin up, probably due to the connector/cable. I tried my 400c with the same connector after cleaning up with isopropyl (cable), and still nothing when before I had dvd intermittent and disc spinup. I think the lense cable is shot. I'm hoping I didn't fry the "new" 400c too in the process. So that's where I stand.I'll start the new process with a new lense cable, and then what is the next step I should take? Then what should I do from there? Any ideas? Thx
I'm having trouble telling what could be caused by my Modchip and What could be caused by that laser. The PS2 HAS NOT MOVED in 2 months. The error with the cd media today was "Disc Cannot Be read" and Disc Read Error." That wouldn't be a lose connector on my V7 DMS4 Pro install. I was using my original PS1 discs too. It's so hard to differentiate. I'm losing it here. I'm assuming that it was related to my "new" laser, due to the fact that before the "new" laser, my install has worked flawlessly for over 2-3 years of use and has never Ever failed. Prob the laser?
It has passed my mind to buy a new PS2 slim;however, that would mean giving up my Hard Drive, which I really really like, and I don't want that if I can avoid it, however, I'm already into laser/cable 54+8$, and a new ps2 slim is 120$. If I'm forced to buy yet a new PS2 laser, that might not even be new, I have to weigh PS2Slim against a new laser. I just hate buying a new console with new consoles around the corner. What to do What to do?
