First of all I just gotta say: kudos on the awesome forums!
Now to my issue:
I have a european SCPH-50004, v9 I believe, and I understand that this version is known for being silent. I've been playing quite some and never even though about the sounds it makes, until yesterday when I got my Network Adapter. Without Network Adapter it is silent enough, and doesn't bother me at all, but as soon I plug in the adapter the fan will constantly run on max speed. I tried to unplug EVERYTHING external (controllers, memory cards, composite cable, disc) except (of course) the power cord and the Network Adapter (without HDD or even network cable plugged in), and as soon as I start the console it's like the PS2 checks if theres a Network Adapter present, and when there is, it's like "Woho I found a network adapter, let's set the fan's speed to max and never slow it down!". I've opened up the case and there was basically no dust, however that shouldn't be the source of the problem anyway as it's rather silent without the adapter plugged in.
Basically, when I start with the Network Adapter the fan will start on full speed and not slow down even if the console is cool and/or idling.
I have never used one of these adapters before so I have no idea how it is supposed to impact the fan, and unfortunately I don't have any other console available I can test it on. But it seems wierd that this version is supposed to be silent and I can't seem to find anyone with the same issue when searching the net.
* PAL SCPH-50004/v9, not chipped or anything. Should be 100% original.
* PAL Network Adapter, manual says SCPH-10350 EE.
* Fan: NMB 2406ML-09W-B40 7V 0.29A. On the plastic it's written PBT-GF30-FR. Can't seem to find any info on whether it's original or not, but it seems to fit nicely etc.
Other info (may or not be relevant):
I bought the console from a friend, who bought it used from Gamestop. When I opened the case, one of the case's screws where missing and I noticed the case to the DVD-reader had been opened. Probably (or hopefully) by Gamestop, not sure if just for maintenance or if there has been some internal changes, but nothing inside looks wierd or anything.
The Network Adapter I also bought used, even though the former owner claimed he never used it the case was broken. However the sticker covering the RJ45-socket was still there and everything looked brand new.
I tried to play SSX 3 over network using OPL, and it seemed to freeze rather frequently. However I suspect my home network or OPL compitability rather than the adapter itself.
In summary, I'm looking for answers to the following questions:
1. ) Is this behavior expected? What is your experience on Network Adapter and fan noise/speed?
2. ) Is there any way to lower the fan noise/speed except using a more silent 3rd party fan?
3. ) If answer to question 1 is "no": Is my fan original: for v9? for another version of the console?
