    Dear community,

I bought a faulty PS2 v12 (mobo no. GH-032-31) from ebay with the following symptoms:

-Laser-Tray makes a rattling noise but does not move laser head.
-Video signal is perfect and the browser is working fine (can also move through menu with the controller).

The person who sold it failed at installing a mod-chip and blew off two SMDs from the mainboard during the process.
I googled around and searched this forum but had no luck finding any good pics of this particular mobo (at least not in such detail).

Could someone be so kind to take a look at the pictures I posted? Maybe someone can identify the missing SMDs.

    The pics:
    - mobo-large-view.jpg, shows the mobo from a distance for orientation.
    - mobo-section-detail.jpg, is a very clear macro-pic of the affected section.
    - v12-fuses-section.jpg, is the only v12 pic I found and may help to identify the missing units.

    Thank you!

    Nek

Ok, I searched for "v12 diagram" in this forum and found out that the
section with the missing SMDs (look like they are resistors) is the part that is used to install the SummOne fix.

I have no way of knowing what the inscriptions on the missing components could have been since they were gone before I got the ps2. They could have been 303, 683 or 01D. Is there a way to find out by the mobo's serial no.? It's a GH-032-31.

Just one final question: Do you think that the laser could have taken some damage if the former owner bridged the gap of the missing SMDs?
I will definitily try replacing the components tomorrow, but it would be nice to get some feedback before I do so.

    Thanks!

PS: I added the pic I found for the curious.

    Good news!

I replaced the two missing 303 SMDs with some from my "old" one but the laser kept rattling. I then swapped the laser units and now it's working great!
It reads CDs and DVDs in seconds!

I guess this thread can be closed now.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys.

    Nek
