Need DUO3 install help *newbie warning* –
Ok so i got my duo 3 but I'm having some problems installing it. First off in the diagram wires A, B, H, I, & G are listed twice the second listing is labeled as alternative, I'm assuming there's no difference in the fuctionality of the chip depending on where you solder these wires right? Anyways I didn't want to deal with the super tiny pins so I went with the normal solder points but I'm not sure how to approach points I, B, G, & H... I don't see any copper or traces so obviously I can't tin them... how am I suppose to solder to these points? Also wires S and A are giving me problems, and tips on soldering to these types of points? I can make a connection but it's always super weak simply because of the lack of space to solder the wire.
Thanks in advance
Ok I offically have no idea how to solder wires B, I, G, & H. On that site it says to fill the via's with solder to pretty much convert them into pads (which are easy to solder too) but the VIAs on my ps2s mobo don't even have holes in them.... and when I try to melt solder onto them the solder does not stick, the rosin flux spreads out over the VIAs but the solder itself sticks to the iron. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated. Thanks
EDIT: I considered soldering to the alternate points on the big SCEI chip pins but the pins are waaaaaaaaay too small. no doubt I'd bridge like 3-4 pins if I tried to tin them.
You'll need to scrape the via's with a sharp blade, like an exacto knife, or precision knife. Be careful not to cut, just scrape using the tip in a sideways motion with the blade on a slight angle. When you have exposed copper around the hole, you're set. Flux the hole then dab with solder on the tip of your iron, don't linger too long on the via as it may melt into the board, you're ok for a few seconds.

Wonderful! my ps2 is now completely dead. does not get any power whatsoever. the light doesn't turn on when you pug it in. I seriously don't understand how you guys do this on a day to day basis without ****ing dozens of ps2s. I'm guessing one of my connections somewhere isn't good, probably the via points or solder point S. Does anybody have any suggestions before I junk the unit?
BTW how do people learn how to do these mod chip installs? It might just be the fact that I don't have the right equipment or something but I think my technique is lacking too .
w00t I took out the duo3 and everything is working perfectly again. Well at least I can play all my original games and DVDs, which is good for sure. I think I'm just going to get somebody to install it for me, too much of a hassel to do without the right equipment/training :P
when u took out the duo3...did u remove all the wires too? if not...it'll be an easy fix, it'll be something at the chip end
I took the wires out too. it was not something at the chip end that's for sure. My solder points on the chip were all really strong. I'm thinking I ****ed up the VIA points but I'm far too lazy to try and isolate the problem sooo yeah I'm just going get it modded by a pro.
