Is my Laser dead?

Hi!
I have 2 year old v12 with a Mi chip and summon fix here,a friend i lost contact with did the mod for me, it worked fine until yesterday, i was playing ff12 and the game just froze, since then it doesnt want to play dvds anymore, it makes clicking noises if i insert a dvd it doesnt give me a disk read error or anything like that it goes straight to the menu and makes clicking noises, Cd games work fine, do i need to change the laser or could this error be related to something else? The lens looks fine by the way not burned or something like that.

I just tried to run it opened, the dvd is running very slow and jerky
the clicking noise seems to come from the lens it goes up and down the whole time but the laser is red so its not burned right?

sounds like the laser is toast - does it play originals?

nope it doesnt play dvds no games and no movies, but any kind of cd games.

ok thanks for the answer, i feared the board would have died, i just ordered a new laser. they are only 15€ here, so no real problem.

i just changed the laser and its as good as new now! thanks to everyone who answered here.

I put a crystal chip pro 2.0 in my ps2 ver 15, it worked fine for three days, but it suddently blocked and now I cant read anything, it doesn´t recognize anything!! is the laser dead??? i dont iven have a month with the play!!!

could be a loose wire/faulty mod chip. i would first start with checking the wiring - failing that remove the chip. if it still gives problems it could well be the laser.

Oh yeah - you might want to measure the laser coils first before you remove the chip.
