Is my Laser dead?

Hello,

I have a Silver PS2 SCPH-50002.
The drive had stopped reading discs, and its out of warranty period.

I'm not sure if my laser is dead, the red light on the laser blinks when the tray goes back in.
However the lens doesnt move at all when I have a disc inside.
The only time the lens moves is when I turn it on and it goes back to the defualt position if i move it manually by hand.

Is my laser dead or are the coils burnt?

I read here that you can measure the resistance on the laser coils to see if they're ok.
Search around this forum, you'll find it.

That involves taking the laser out, I dont know how to take it out on my version, one side of the laser seems to be permanently attached to one of the rails.

laser is dead even if you were to adjust the pots. it will soon burn out just save sometime and buy a new laser.

I dont want to adjest the pots, I just want to know if the laser is dead. As in my first post, the red light in the laser still blinks but it doesnt move along the rails even when i insert a disc, but it moves during power up.

How do I check the fuses?

Spin the disc while it's trying to detect ... if you hear a noise like ZZZ ZZZ
then it's trying to spin but the LB chip either has no power (It uses 5V and 12V) or we have a problem in the spindle motor or the connection flat cable has a bent pin ... LA = Laser coils driver LB= Spindle driver

Will changing the laser uni fix all the problems you have stated?
I took a look at the laser its looks hard to take out and i have to open the motherboard cover on the bottom.
Where can I find a tutorial for this?
