laser swap and new laser setup

my laser simply tossed the towel in yesterday with no warining, which was suprising as a mainly use the hard disk games. anyway can anyone tell me how easy it reaslly is to swap a laser and get it running/reasding spot on..............i have changed one before on my older v4 model but i never quite got the laser running right.

if the lasers a referb then you just swap and use lenchanger if needed.
if its new you need to remove the antiscatic solder

Lenschanger have no real effect on anything earlier than V5 other than erasing the reference values sony programmed to the eeprom in the factory.

If you try to program a V4 t use a HD7 laser it will have no effect. This is what I mean. The PS2 might work with the HD7 but will first try to use it as if it was a 400x laser ....
