I have a very odd problem.
I can play ps2 CD games and DVD games fine.
I can also load PSone orginal cd games fine.
But copied psone games give me problems, Resident evil 2/3 will not work, Bushido blade will not work, neither will Metal Gear Solid. But Castlevania SOTN and Contra legacy of war work. Contra has very very long load times but Castlevania is perfect. I know Resident evil 3 works, and bushido blade. Others im not sure but they did load up in a emulator.
What happens is it shows the Playstation logo (which takes about 1-2 mins to come up) and just freezes.
The disc does spin and I can hear it for about 15-25 sec. Then it stops spinning.
All disc are burned on the same type of media and on 2x.
I'm having the exact same problem... I used to play all kind of games (PS2 originals, PSX originales, and backups of both) smoothly, but recently, the backups started to play jittery and had long load times... I dont know what to do... some backups don't even load at all, but the originals play perfectly...
What is the problem? don't think that's a busted laser, or is it?
Try cleaning the laser, that fixed a few problems but I still have a few games that will not load.
I cleaned the laser... same behavior
I adjusted the laser pots to 10%+ and 10%- than the default value... same behavior... adjusted them back to original value, same behavior...
I retested original games, and they play perfectly...
It is a laser related problem? is my laser burnt or other component is failing?
I'm told that PS2s are infamous for having the lens reader / laser crap out. =\ I honestly don't know enough to tell you though if this is the case or if it's something else.
Just stating one possbility.
I´ve had two Ps2 v9 that behaved that way even when I´ll changed to new lasers,
But when I changed the LA the problem was gone.(both have the Romeo fix)
laser bios fix.?
aparently there is a disc you can get that changes the bios on ps2's so you can swap the laser for the different b, r, c types etc without having to use the original type for that console..iwas told it was on this site somewhere! big site, any pointers or links would be great. cheers tim.
