JP PS2Phat blew from NZ 240v mains, can I fix it? –
Hi all my Japanese friend forgot to plug his PS2 through a step down when plugging it into 240v, and it blew. He gave it to me as he bought a new one_like_it_was_no_big_deal (this is back in the day, I've had it for a few years sitting in my closet) but now I got some time I was wondering if I could repair it? Would it be just a fuse that blew? or the whole power supply unit? Anyone have any ideas?
dude i dont know too much about soldering or repairing stuff on hardmod .
but i know a little about this one : picture attached
If it is only the fuse, it's no problem.
And if you have a soldering iron, you could also replace the capacitor.
There sure are some shops where you can find a replacement.
Check out the capacitors first, if they look like they are nearly blown up
(a little bit round on top), they are probably damaged.
You also could insert a 12V, 100 to 240V AC wide range power supply from a Monitor, like i did in my PS2 combo project.
But be sure, that it has at least 6A power and it also must be small enough to fit into place (maybe a 5A one will also do the trick, but that's not proved by now).
To make space for it, you only have to cut off the small plastic nipples inside the back of the housing (but not the ones for the screws)!
The four pins from the main connector are 2xGND and 2xVCC +12V DC.
