How to check if ps2 slim is completely dead? –

I have a V12 PS2 slim and yesterday i just "died." Its no longer turning on. Like at all. I think maybe got fryed maybe? I think it has to do with the way i turn it on. I have a wire soldered on to the a + point on the motherboard and when i want to turn it on/reset I just take it and bridge it with the - for like 1/2 seconds and there it turns on. Oh and if the non soldered end of the wire comes in contact with something metal with a little more voltage then the - then it goes straigt into stand by (Like when you hold the power/reset button) Well what I believe happened is maybe it got in contact with some of WAY too much voltage and something might of been fryed (if its possible to do so from the power + and - points) Is there any way for me to check if my PS2 is unable or not? I borrowed an actual power/reset board to see if maybe some how the wire just was being dumb but i still dont get power. (I cant see if the red LED is on becuase for some reason his p/r board is missing the led(or burnt out) and the disk drive sensor, but it has an infrared sensor)
Any help will be apreticated (: Thank you
