    Hi there.
A friend gave me ps2 v9, that only reads ps2 blue games, but ir can't read silver games. If I put there a silver game, it gears, stops, gears, stops and than gears and if I do BROWSE - "No media found".

    I've checked the bobines, they're good -» TRACKING - 5.0ohms and FOCUS 4.8ohms.

I also saw when I turn on the ps2, the lens moves and appears the red light.

Do you thing the problem is with Laser Diode, or LA6508? BEcause it hasn't romeo fix.

(In my opinion, the problem isn't with LA, because it read's a blue disks of ps2 games. If the LA was dead, it wouldn't read any games.. )

Thank you very much and sorry for my english :P

Dude, did you try adjusting the white cog(s) behind the laser rails...if I'm not mistaken there would be two cogs, behind the laser rails that you could adjust, make it 2-3 "clicks" on each then try popping in a "silver" disc, then a DVD then lastly CD-rom based games. There's also a chance that the laser might be worned out, it happened to me when I oever adjsuted the Pots cause I didnt know of Ohm values or such, however even with worned out laser it would still read CD-based stuff...but not DVD games...Hope this help! Cheers for more detailed information try checking for DRE Faqs or DIY material on the net (there's tons) regarding adjusting stuff in the PS2...

Thank you very much for helping.

Some days ago I've tried to adjust the white cogs, did some 2clicks to the Right (clockvise) some 4 or 5 times, and tried to load the Silver discs... But nothing.. I'll do that anticlockwise today, seeing if console will read that disks..

I've read some things, and I think that if the laser is wormed out, the bobines would be dead, or isn't it?

A don't have touched the Pots on the laser, they've original values.

I'dont have enought money to buy a new laser, but I'm waiting for HDExtreme (HDAdvance & USbExtreme). I think that that disks are Cd's, not Dvd's, and maybe that PS2 silver will read that

Thank you for pressious info, I'll post some news later.

Ei, always glad to be of help...anyways, ahmmm what exactly do u mean bobbines?...well the LA chip goes out when the laser dies, but anyways...yup,..good thing you haven't touched the POT values...ok so about the COGS...try starting from the lowest position (Adjusting the cogs actualy alligns the laser's focus) so what you can do is adjust both cogs regardless of the clicks adjust it clockwise (Till the point that you can adjust no more)....then from there on, try adjusting 2-3 clicks counterclockwise...what I do is I have the problem DVD sitting in the disc rotor, and I remove the white magnetic cap from the dvd drive cover to have it magnetized on the dvd rotor. then i could go trial and error a couple of clicks counter clockwise without having to put back the whole dvd enclosure then take it off adjust then put it back in......worse comes to worst when You'd have to adjust the POT values if the laser is really worned out...

    Ok, thanks again

Well, the laser has two principal parts, that are:

    - Bobines
    - Laser diode.

Bobines are responsible for TRACING & FOCUS values.

I've attached a pic of bobines.

If bobines are dead, the laser won't read any tipe of media.

In mine case, the bobines have a good values, TRACKING - 5.0ohm and FOCUS - 4.8ohm. (i've read some tutorials and have compared the values. )

Since that, my bobines aren't dead.

Ah, I forgot to say, that when I put that silver disk, and close the drive eith EJECT button, it doesn't read (it gears, stops, and than gears, but No Media Found), but when I want to open the drive with the silver disk inside it, it doesn't open with EJECT button when console is turned, the eject button simply blinks blue light, but the drive doesn't open.
To open the drive, I must turno off the console, and than, turn it on with the EJECT button.
Is this syndrome is typical of dead laser? Or the prob is of LA6508, or BA?

Thank you very much xero_cool for helping me

Hi there,...hmmm thanks for the information bro,...anyways...regarding the eject button well that sure is weird but what you're saying about the silver disc not spinning or you meant to say no dvd activity after you insert the disc, well..it sounds kindda bad for me...I forgot to ask if you tried another silver/dvd game or another title...(blue discs are ps2 sc-based and silver ones are dvd-based games)....I'll try to Pm you and give you a DIY guide I scarfed it from different sources online...hehe

Hehe, thanks man for very quick reply , I'll be waiting for PM.

What I'm saying that when I put silver dvd into the drive, firstly, it spinsthe dvd about 1 sec, than stops, than spins it again 1s, stops, and then it became spinning it always.. but can't read it. When I go to BROWSe menu on PS2, it give's me - Reading the disk and then no media found or something like that..

No, I haven't tried with other types of silver disks yet. I'll try it now, and with dvd movie too.

    Thanks

hehe ,looks funny all this talk
well this problem, happens when the ps2 is powered on (reading a disc) and it's dropped down
that means the coils (bobines) are fine ,but the problem comes from the little lens that redirect the laser from the source to the cd
you have to check if this lens (not the one that attached to the bobines) and the little mirror are well placed (make sure they are well stuck) and don't move ,if they are ok ,you need to change the laser diode (that rarely happens)
