    I have a V4 PS2 that I didn't care about fixing since I just bought a V9 PS2 but since the new one is broken, I want to transfer the laser into the old one but turn out that I ripped out a resistor in my hurry to remove glued chip wire from it. None of the motherboard picture online are high-def enough to figure out the missing resistor. If somebody would be nice enough to check I would really appreciate it! Here is the resistor resistor's pad, it's located near the USB port and right by fuse PS3 and PS4:

    I believe the resistor, R438 is supposed to be 1.3Kohm. It is used to adjust the output voltage of the linear voltage regular (IC408, PQ070XZ01ZP) from 5V to 1.8V.

    Vout = Vref (1+R2/R1) = 1.25(1 + 1.3Kohm/2.7Kohm) = 1.85V.

    Thanks for the info, I'll try to replace is asap and see if it's the only thing creating trouble!

    Edit: Well, I replaced the resistor but I guess it was not the only thing creating issue, I still get no picture. Must have to do with the 2 capacitor that got removed wit hthe hot glue, I did try to replace them but since there no way to know a SMD capacitor value, I'm out of luck. I tried replacing with the one from the V9 PS2 (were located in the same area).

    Thanks for helping though!

    Which caps are you missing? The schematic picture that I showed you should list the capacitor values for the parts nearby. If you have a multimeter, you should be able to measure the value of the capacitor regardless if it is and SMD or through-hole, but pay attention to the frequency the mulimeter sources to the capacitor.

    @nbdy
    Also, you should be able to find the schematic for the PS2 easily if you google 'service manual ps2.' If not, just send me a PM.

    The caps that you are missing are all 100nF caps. They're used for decoupling. Even if you didn't have these caps soldered, I'm not sure if it would impact performance. I've attached some pictures for a reference.

    Oh well, thanks for the help! I guess this is not what's causing the issue. I'll keep looking.
