Sorry I'm new to the fourm.

but is there any way to connect my Ps2's HDD to my computer via IDE cables?

or how can I access it via my network to see EVERYTHING, not just my installed games? I have the program to install games via HDLoader.

Just wondering how I can access the FULL extent of my HDD contents.

EDIT: Sorry I just noticed This might be the wrong area to post this in, if anyone can redirect it to the right area so someone can give me some insight please, thank you.

as if you connect an external hard drive to you PC, you can see the FULL contents VIA PC.

PC can't browse PFS partitions so NO YOU CAN'T read files from the HDD in a PC.

PC can dump or install HDL partitions backup or restore chunks of data but it can't access specific files.

Do what amp2006 suggested on a REAL PS2 console and you will have success.

For HDL games you have to use HDLDUMP or Winhiip.

    I do have those.

I was just wondering if I was able to "Ghost" (aka BACK-UP/IMAGE) that complete drive so I can restore it onto a different drive, since i have 2 40GB HDDs.

sorry, its more on the PC side of things about Ghosting and the program Ghost32.

makes an EXACT IMAGE ("back -up") of a hard drive and you can restore that image onto any other hard drive as long as you are using the same PC.

    basicly,
I wanted to back-up ALL of my ps2HDD content onto my PC so I can transfer it onto another HDD.

It'll probably not work. Sony had designed their PS2 HDDs to use Aligned Partition Allocation to record the existance of individual partitions on the HDD.

Most computer systems just record the existance of the partitions in the HDD in the Master Boot Record instead... so most software designed for PC HDD imaging would probably not detect partitions created for use on a PS2.

Unless the software understands APA and PFS (Playstation File System), or images disks sector-by-sector instead, there's no way to backup your HDD without manual work.

Imaging will work, but with one issue:

Only works if the destination is the same drive, for official stuff. (Or another of exact size in case of HDL & Homebrewn)

thank you both, I was able to go about a different way, however in doing so, I wasnt able to transfer over the FFXI data that came with the first hard drive, but thats ok because I have more room now for other content. for that first HDD will be a back-up now.

    Thanks again.
