It has a date code of D1, I built PC's. But I can't solder, I don't want to take a risk of ****ing the system up. I want to modify it to Play Kingdom Hearts Final Mix 1 and 2. Will Swap Magic work with it or is there a solderless mod chip I could use? I really don't want to void the warrenty in a way but if I have to I will open it to mod it. Also, would FMCB work? I'm guessing it won't for my date code. All regards, Please respond.

unfortunately you have to use swapmagic, or solder a modchip.

What is the safer option? I'm thinking swap but is swap going to work? I've heard it has probelms with even the sensors blocked. Also is Swap Magic able to play backups?

ok, here is your best bet...

your PS2 wont boot FMCB but it will install it to your MC.

get SWAPMAGIC 3.6 or 3.8 coder. no need for sensor modding.

with this you can use this as a boot disk. get a USB stick and make a folder on it "SWAPMAGIC" in capitals without the quotes obviously . . . lol
make a copy of uLE and rename it SWAPMAGIC.ELF all in capitals and put this in your SWAPMAGIC folder.
now when you have the USB stick in the PS2 and the swapmagic disk in the tray at poweron swapmagic looks for this folder and will execute the file. in this case it has started uLaunchElf which is a file manager and elf launcher.

this is able to start any homebrew from here. OPL will then let you play games either from a USB disk ( you can remove the USB stick once uLE has booted) or even better , from a network share on your PC.

the laser only gets used at boot so it extends its life and you have access to all the emulators and other homebrew like SMS,GSM, OPL PS2ESDL etc...

read up as there are a lot of posts about getting the network working
