G & H wire

I have a v7 ps2 + modbo 745. In the [Lets See Some Ps2 Mods! Only Pics Please No Talk] thread i saw some installs w/ out the G & H wires connected. This one for example,

Do i need to connect them??? Thanks.

I may be wrong, but I thought g & h were used on jap systems.
