frying the laser?

I have a V7. Do I have to worry about the laser frying if I mod it? What precautions should i take? And how can i prevent it from happening?

keep the laser lens clean. Dont smoke insame room, Use name brand disks to back up your originals and if you have never installed on a ps2 take all the time in the world last thing you want to do is kill your system.
