Friend's PS2 won't recognize network adapter

My friend managed to snag the official ps2 net adapter for $0.01 (yeah, one penny) and was excited to have me set everything up for him to use HDLoader. Well, everything worked fine on my ps2, but when plugged into his ps2, it doesn't work. We tried booting with the network startup disk that came with it, but to no avail; it hung at the initial loading screen. Is there something straight up wrong with his ps2? or is there a workable fix? If not, we have a friend that works for a game store that usually swaps consoles out for us if they're not working right B)

Try it in a different console maybe? Or try a known working adapter in his ps2. Maybe that's why it was a penny....

My ps2 (v7) will only read chinese network adapters, which is weird. Check to see if it is japanese, i know japanese are better quality. but not all want to work. My network and hdd work in his ps2, but his network and his hdd wont work, unless i put it in my network adapter. Trade it in to a gamestop/ebgames (maybe if you get good) and buy a different one. they go for about $10-$14 at them. Hope this helps. If you do trade. remember this saying. Dont ask dont tell.

I was having exactly the same prob with my v7. The network adapater boots fine in any other ps2 but hangs on the loading screen on my ps2 with any network enabled games.. I was thinking it was my magic 5 f-ing stuff up but I'm not totally sure.

yap usually fuse 9 or 10 blown that's 5v n 12 v power supplier for hdd

I bought a european network adapter kit and in the manual there were a HUGE list with serial number ranges of machines which have problems with the network adapters. The instruction on the manual is to contact Sony support if the PS2 serial match any of the ranges listed in it.

I bet this has to do with a huge batch of PS2s with damaged expansion port chip made in 2002 ... lol

my network card works for networking, but not the hdd; i don't think hdd is getting any power. any ideas?

btw, if there were huge batches of ps2 with a damaged expansion port chip, shouldn't sony have recalled those ps2 units?

If your network card works for networking and your HDD doesn't spin, sure shot one or both HDD power fuses are blown, as Loy said...
