Fake Sony Memorycards?
-
06-05-2006,03:55 AM
the magic gate chip could be cloned or leaked from one of the Sony's factories in china. what might make the differece is the actual 8mb flash memory chip. the samsung, toshiba flash memory chip are the best quality. the one used in the fake memory card looks crappy to me.

Take a look on eBay...plenty of shady-looking "Sony"-branded cards out there that are available from Hong Kong, etc.
I don't think one should have to discriminate against an entire region...but at least when I am shopping on eBay I look only for sellers in North America and I scrutinize the pictures of the items they are selling. This, on top of all of the other obvious eBay precautions...
It is too bad...because I know that I personally only trust Sony when it comes to standard memory cards for PS1 or PS2. The scammers realize that I'm not alone and try to take advantage.

I dont use Ebay as source for ps2 parts.
Order only with "verified" companies in China.
Got no reply (yet) on my email.
And test the memcards with FlashXP and sending a 8 MB dummy file to the card.
Today I bought a Sony 8 MB memcard in a local shop and yes in it was the same pcb as the presumed fake one on the picture.
The memorycard case has a bad fit in the ps2, takes a lot of force to get it out again.
Ok test now ALL the stuff before reselling.
