DVD Drive Help
Hi, I have a couple of broken slim PS2 that I bought over the years and never fixed.
Now, most of these have DVD drive related problems and when I mix and DVD drives around, I have working lenses, I now now how many DVD lens I have to purchase.
However, I stay in South Africa and we use PAL and I have one JAP NTSC version and all difference with it's DVD drive is the position of one cable.
When I tried to replace the NTSC DVD lens (TDP-182W) with a working PAL version (SPU3170), it does not run. It doesn't even seem that it reads the DVD drive.
Now, what I would like to find out, before I purchase a NTSC lens, is there something else I could try that can be faulty?
Maybe Lenschanger could help you.
PS2 Lens has nothing to do with color system. SPU-3170 Lens is used in some SCPH-700xx, (where 'xx' is the region) PAL or NTSC version.
SPU-3170 and PVR-802-W (TDP-182W) Lens Units are incompatible.
What's your PS2 Model?
Sorry for the late response.
I did buy a new TDP-182W as that was the model of the broken lens.
I really enjoyed that solder that you have to desolder on new drives
But now I have a new problem:
When I turn on the machine, the lens runs downwards and does not stop.
And it does this continuesly.
Make sure that the flat cable is properly connected on len's conector.
I did tripple check the cable, plus I replaced the DVD cable with a working cable from my other PS2 but still no luck.
It is as if when I fasten the screws more tightly, then the motor keeps on running. Is there maybe a sensor somewhere?
Or are the NTSC cases the same as PAL cases (I see no difference)
And if I didn't remove the solder point, would it cause problems?
Please any advice
