Install went great! Chip boots up great! I can enter the config by pressing triangle + circle.

But when I try to read a retail game (Vice City) I get DRE

I've never had a problem like this before with the console. The only thing I remember doing to it when removing the cd rom last night was pushing the laser (accidently) with my finger and pushing it a little down its track. Whats the default position by the way?

I cleaned the laser with a sunglass cleaning cloth and gently blew it with canned air.

    Any ideas?? Pleasssse help!

i double checked the ribbon and its on.

its not even saying DRE anymore, it just sits spinning trying to read, not moving on the tracks.

hmm here's what else is happening:

without a disc, the laser blinks, and zooms in and out looking for the disc, then the system boots fine, all without the laser moving on its track. With a disc, the red light comes straight on and the disc spins, but it doesn't move from its track, and continues saying "Reading Disc".

As soon as I press the POWER button and hold it, the laser light goes off before the ps2 shuts down, which I'm assuming is normal right?

I'm going to doublecheck my bios connections for bridges, but what do you guys think? Please keep in mind I'm not getting DRE anymore, just a spinning disc.

Ok so I took it all apart, checked every connection with a multimeter, resoldered some questionable places, checked for bridges EVERYWHERE, with no avail

SAME issue as described above. Could it be a fuse?

    wow turns out I have a V8 GH-022.

I can't seem to find fuse diagrams or cog tutorials anywhere.

Are the fuse diagrams identicle for v7 and v8? I see some differences in the two.

ok so i take the chip out, and Vice City retail boots, Xenosaga retail doesn't (it's dual layer). Movies and PS1 games dont' boot either. I figure if VC boots then I just need to work on my laser.

I put the chip back in (much better this time wiht better, shinier connections), I'm getting the exact same results this time. Not booting anything... just asks if i wanna goto browser or configuration. I pick Broswer and it goes and just says 'Reading Disc'.
