I have a laser KHM 430 , and does it fit on SCPH 70004 ?

And can i change it alone? Not to pay to somebody ?

I understand that its much easier than chipmodding.

Is there something i must do, or just change, if its fits, that is ....

Thank you all for answers ...

I have used the KHM-430 instead of PVR-802W on my V14 SCPH -75001 model.

You just have to see what laser your SCPH 70004 had in it previously

You will have to remove the anti static points on the new laser, unless you requested it done before it was shipped.

To remove the anti static points , you need to use a desoldering pump, or a soldering gun and desoldering braid.

Checkout out youtube for some videos on changing the laser. It is not hard.

My friend put out laser from 90004 8C (it should be PWR802) and installed it in 70004, and then putted this KHM430 in 90004. . . .

I get the point that you think that changing the laser lets you play backups or to prevent the burning of the laser.

It does not do that. You still need laser protection aka laserfix chip or diode fix.

And yea, you should check what laser you have. I've seen too that some of 70004's have same laser than 90004's.

Laserfix and such crap does nothing but make the console have a harder time reading discs.

The real fix is get rid of the modchip and use ESR or OPL instead.

Even with just ESR the odds of breaking your laser are reduced by more than 80%. Only REALLY BAD burned discs could damage a PS2 without a modchip installed.

Modchips are the biggest reason for blown lasers. Don't be fooled by "voodoo" fixes...

Oh and both laser types are identical on a electrical standpoint. It just means that KHM is made by SONY itself and PVR is made by Mitsumi. It's common to find KHM laser on new slims and replacements be PVR.

    Again, both are electronically identical.

I've fixed few of 70004 with burned lasers, and they dont have modchips.
One guy said he dont want a laserfix, just change the laser. Well i changed, and after a couple of weeks he brought it to me again.

But i dont know much about the in depth things that happen in PS2.
But by the way, what exactly ESR do to reduce the burnings?

Sometimes modchips cause the DVD drive CPU freeze while the disc is reading (this is also what makes the RESET button stop working) and because it stops controlling the power on the laser coils while it's crashed, the coils have a possibility of blowing. This is worse on the early slim units because they have nothing to disable the coils.

Like I mentioned on my previous post, modchips are not the only cause, bad burns of even DVD video discs can cause the problem. But it's really much more common when a modchip is in use.

In the cases where there is no modchips, the problem is caused by bad "sub-channel" data written by bad recorders or poor quality media which deteriorated.

I have friend, he changed lasers every 4-5 months ...

I told him its much cheaper that he sells 70004, and buy 75004 or 77004 ... on these last 2, there is no problem like on 70004 ?

That's one way to do it...
Even better would be, if he don't use his laser at all anymore...

    Every Slim-PS2 has a LAN-Connection, so OPL's SMB-Mode is perfectly matching for/to those versions.

No, my friend. I know that, my point was that for chip modding i must find some who knows the job, got the knoweldge and tools.

For changeing laser i only need one screwdriver and a little patience ...
