I was going to buy a Slim Ps2 and wanted to know if all of them have the laser problem and need the summone fix or is it just the V12 ..I have not read much about the V13-V14
i was wondering the same thing, i just picked up a V14 ps2 (SCPH-75001) and i ordered DMS4 S.E Lite (which should be arriving in the mail in the next few days) which comes with the Laserfix PCB Neofix xiii. On Mod-chip.com it says that its for v12-v14 therefore im all confused.
Some people say that v14 needs it, others say it dont. Some say its better to have it and others say its totally unnecessary.
Does anyone know the answer?
all know that v12 needs a fix, but for v13 & v14, you don't need any fix, but sony is just el cheapo & evil that sony doesn't want their product to last forever.
i think fixes are for tracking & focusing coils not the diode when the controller crashes & stuck (shows the quality of engineering & manufacturing of sony)
that said, v13 & v14 as well as fixed v12's laser diode (one that generate the beam) can be fried with a bad media.
when difficult to read disks are inserted, dvd-rom drive laser power controller increases its output automatically this can fry the diode.
i guess the auto gain signal can be controlled but they will slow down the drive & being really picky
suing sony's ass might fix the problem![]()
anyone?
