Disk Read Error
I have bought a PS2 from the market (£10) so was expecting the worst but thought i'd give it a go.
The machine boots up fine and I can navigate through the options and read memory cards no problem.
When it comes to reading disks however i continually receive the DISK READ ERROR message.
I have only tried DVD's & PS2 games.
I have tried to raise the laser height returning it to it's normal position after no success.
I have also attempted to alter the voltage with no joy.
I assume that the laser is knackered and wondered if it was at all possible to switch lasers with a PS1???
If anyone can suggest a solution or if indeed I am buggered?
u r buggred. You cant swap lasers between ps2's and ps1's
Find out which version the PS2 (usually by looking up the SCPH #) and then try to find out which laser that console has.
Are the most common lasers, but you wont be able to tell for sure until you can get a picture of the lense itself.
if you have a v1 and theres a brass looking gear beside the white gear at the back...try unplugging the ribbon cable that powers it (this gear resets the laser level when the machine boots, and the ribbon cable has no other purpose than to power that gear)
