I got a PS2 from a friend who let me have it because it has a DRE and he doesn't want to mess with it. Anyway the DRE only affects DVD's, Cd's load up very fast.

Anyway here is what I did, called Sony to see if they would fix it, still had warranty sticker attached, they said NO. I then opened up the console and cleaned it out, wasn't very dirty to begin with.

Cleaned the lens with Q-tip and alcohol, didn't work. I was thinking about adjusting the laser angle but this model has 2 white cogs so I didn't really mess with it. If someone can tell me which cog to try that would help!

I then proceeded to the pots to adjust the voltage, pot for dvd was set at 1.3 kohms and I went in increments of 100, went from .758 to 1.517 kohms, 8 different adjustments and nothing. And in a final ditch effort tried 1.95 kohms nothing.

I got tired after this and stopped, if someone can give me some advice to try I would appreciate it. I'm not sure why it stopped working, he didn't say. But when looking around I noticed the tray is cracked, this leads me to believe it may have been dropped. Also the laser model is khs-400c.

I don't believe the tray is the problem, the crack is hardly noticeable. You really have to be looking for it to see it, I run my finger over the crack and you don't even notice it.

The PS2 has been cleaned, there is no dust to be found.

    Anymore ideas?

    --What I've done today--

I followed this sites guide today: http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm

--Adjusted the lens angle (Part 1)- Done, no improvement

--Adjusting Lens angle (Part 2)- didn't try, don't have that type of screwdriver.

    --Adjusting the pots - tried with at recommended levels of 10, 15, and 20 % (1034, 1175, and 1116 ohms) - nothing

Also just to make sure which one the DVD pot is. The pot I adjusted is in the first pic (khs-400 c laser) the one to the far right that is above the C in 400-c.

--Measuring the Coil resistance of your lens- I actually measureg both on the ribbon going to laser and on the laser as well, as shown in the guide. And both were at 4.5 ohms, which is perfect.

I'm not sure what could be wrong with this PS2, it just gives the DRE on DVD games. And CD games it reads those like it was a brand new PS2, even blue back discs are read extremely fast.

I hope someone can give me some new ideas to try.
