Did laser adjustment, now disk wont spin
Did laser adjustment, now disk wont spin –
Have a earlier model fat ps2. Had disk read errors most of the time when you tried to load a game. So I first take it apart and clean the lens, it didn't have much effect on it. So I lowered the resistance on the DVD POT from 1070 ohms to 970 ohms, I heard 950 was the optimum level, so I got it close. While I had it apart I also put a magnet on the white plastic piece that goes over the top of the disk, to make it hold the disk more secure. Then removed the magnet after I was done tweaking the laser.
I put it all back together, and first off the tray wouldn't eject right so I aligned everything again to get it in the right tracks. Now after the tray is working properly, it wont spin the disk up. It may give it a small burst but that's it, and then it doesn't act like there's a disk in there.
So my question is, Is there anything else that could be out of alignment from pulling the lens out, that would make the disk motor not spin up? Or did I go too high with the adjustment and fry the thing? I'm going to try and raise the ohms a little more to see if that changes anything.
Just looking for a little advice as to what else I could do to make it spin the disk up again.
I have tried that also some times with the DVD poti, but it never worked.

The only thing you really can tweak a little bit in that case is the poti for the
CD drive (there is still something to gain by adjusting it), but that's only good
for CD based games...
Try to adjust the resistor back to it's original value and test it again with a
game which was working before.
Maybe one of the cables has loose it's contact during you disassembled the thing?
There is also a tutorial here in the forum, which describes how to measure the
(sorry, i forgot the English name...maybe the coils...the wires around the lens,
which are in charge to lift the lens up and down).
On some v9 or v10 models they appear to burn out sometimes (just search for it).
If this doesn't help and you have an old fat one, just by yourself a Network-Adapter and store your games on a HDD (that's the best solution)
Sounds like you need to just replace the laser with a new one. You can get one on ebay for $20(sometimes)-$30. You most likely need a 400C or 400B, it says it on the side of the laser.
If all else fails I have a version 2/3 and a version 9, both with new lasers Ill sell to you.
I also have a box of used 400C/B lasers that read cd's or dvd's not both. Ill give you a couple real cheap, maybe you can pot tweak them to make them work(I never bother).
Also, like urmele said, get yourself a network adapter, hd, and FMCB and play your games off a harddrive instead. If you need help with that, pm me and Ill tell you how to do it.
What version is you ps-2? SCPH-?????
I just realized this post is from a month ago, all well, LOL. Maybe this well help someone else.
