Datel MAXmemory 16MB won't work!!! –

Hi there
I have a Datel MAXmemory 16MB and it doesn't appear on the PS2's browser ,tried to remove it ,re-insert it several times but noway while my other 8MB official SONY memory cards work just fine
my PS2 is a 90004 Bios 2.30 date code 8c modchip'ed with Modbo 4 (very rare version ,has DMS4's ToxicOS bios ) which i myself installed ,don't worry about the soldering i'm pretty cool at that ,i have installed more than 300 PS2 ,all versions from v4 to the very last ones regardless tons of PSX's and GAMECUBE's
Back to the Memory card ,there's a notice label on it in french says ''you have to instal MAX MEMORY software every time you start-up/reset your PS2 otherwise this MC won't work properly'' .
Do I need some specific software ?? I did a pretty search but nothing was found.
this is my first Datel MC so if someone got experience w/ these MC's please share it out ,I'd appreciate your help
sorry ,horrible English

Apparently you have one of the oldest Datel MC products, which does not have proper "MagicGate" functionality in the hardware. It requires a driver to be loaded into RAM before it can be used, which is done by a special boot disc that comes with the memory card.

You need a special boot CD that comes with the MC, but even with that CD the MC will probably fail to work with many games that you boot, as the driver this MC needs may be damaged by game routines using the same memory areas for game code.

Your MC is not representative of modern Datel MC versions, which do have MagicGate functionality in the hardware, which makes them work just as well as Sony MCs though with much larger capacity (like 32MB or 64MB).
I would not bother trying to use that MC if I were you, and it will be impossible to do so without finding that disc it requires. I would rather scrap that one and try to find a modern Datel MC version instead, but this time you should insist on seeing it used in a newly started PS2 with empty disc tray, to ensure that it doesn't need any boot disc to work.

Just note, that some modchips will let you use this MC without the boot disc (don't know if this DMS-like modbo does). You just have to enter the chip configuration and set the required option.

thank you guys
I've just accessed the Toxic bios ,but cannot find any options regarding the MC
Anyway I'll get rid of it and stick to my 8MB Sony MCs ,I wanted just to know whether its a hardware or software issue ,by now everything seems clear .
