    Hey guys,
I was cleaning my laser the other day and the power/eject button ribbon came out. I got it back in and it seemed to be working, although the connection was intermittent. I was trying to get a better connection on the ribbon and my ps2 shut down and won't turn back on.

Pretty sure I blew a fuse somewhere, but not sure. The only thing I touched was the ribbon so not sure what could have happened.

Any help diagnosing and fixing is certainly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance

probably the actual ribbon rather than a fuse, meter the ribbon end to end and use ide wire as replacement on the broken trace/s if needed .fuse ps3 might have blown aswell but most likely just the ribbon.

I fear i've done the same with mine the last attempt I made with it before a tear in in ribbon happened, I wasn't getting any video output only a black screen, but it was sending something over the scart cable because my tv was flicking to AV-1 from whatever previous channel I had it on.

It was working fine, but the lights on the eject/power button were flickering on and off. While it was on I was trying to get the ribbon a little more secure and it just shut off and now won't turn back on at all. Does that sound like a problem with the ribbon?

To be true, it happened to me once or twice, too. The new ribbons I was using were not as wide as the original ones. If I accidentally aligned them to the left side instead right, upon turning the console on, there was a terrible smell coming out of the ps2 . Just trace where the track from mainboard ribbon connector goes and you should eventually come to a set of resistors and capacitors (SMD). You should easily see which one is to be replaced (though in both cases I experienced, the joints and few mm of tracks themselves were fried, so I had to solder it to the nearest point and use a wire to solder it to the other side ). If this is the case, the console won't even turn on (nor the red light on the switch). But it might as well be a simple ribbon problem... or both ;P.

The fan doesn't come on at all...nothing. I have a new ribbon, I'll try installing it and let you know what happens.
