Yet another DVD9 thread... –

I've got a Magic II red pcb in a v7 machine.
Seems like everything is in working order except for my PS2 original of Xenosaga. If I try to boot up with the RESET, the PS2 just goes to the Broswer/System Info interface. When I go into the browser, the PS2 just sits there trying to read the disc forever. With the GS2 method, the I select "Start Game without Codes" and after I swap the GS2 disc with the Xenosaga disc, nothing happens. It just sits at the "Press X to start game without codes/Press 0 to return."
This really is a big deal for me b/c I do buy original PS2 software, and Xenosaga is one of those games that I actually played through.
I've read through charlie_ps2's thread about the DVD9 issues, and tried doing the GS2 trick which still didn't fix the problem?
Any suggestions on solving the problem?

I guarantee the GS2 trick should fix the problem based on my AR2 experience on the US v7. After pressing X with Xenosaga swapped in, it sits there for a half minute or so then it boots.
It looks like I have to revise my thinking on DVD9 based on Messiah 2 behaviour. I think it's a power draw thing seeing the difference between Messiah and Magic/Apple in respect of BIOS handling.

I've mentined it b4, it is all to do with timing (ie the way the modchip have been coded)

If that's the case then this poses a serious problem for me, as I sent my Apple Chip to Davies to get it installed (yes, FINALLY an installation with a reliable source is going through..) and one of the main games I've been looking forward to playing is Xenosaga. If the DVD-9 issue is serious enough, maybe I should sell the V4 1C unit and just buy a premodded Messiah 2 when they're available? Though I imagine the price to shoot through the roof on those.

Xenosaga hk silver, import or original?

if it is original for ur region, u can bypass ps2 boot by just using the PSX method of booting.
However, not being able to boot dvd9 games is sometimes to do with the laser as charlie have always mentioned. So even with the messiah 2 installed it does not necessary mean that dvd9 games will boot.

Xenosaga's an import, NSTC-J which will be running on a U.S. V4 with an Apple Chip installed (if everything goes well) I do recall Charlie saying it's chiefly an issue of the laser; however I believe he admitted there may be more to the problem with Apple / Magic modded PS2s than just a laser issue, hence my worries. I've already gone through enough trouble just to get the PS2 itself *modded*..so it's only natural that I don't want to run into any problems once it's said and done.

As I said in an earlier post in this thread, I guarantee that Xenosaga boots behind AR2/GS2 with the Apple mod.

Well, here it goes.
The problem was that the Z point wasn't soldered on so the GS2 trick didn't work.
I've went back and soldered on the Z point and the GS2 trick now DOES work.
Those of you who are concerened, I have not been able to boot Xenosaga from the RESET button a single time.

Ouch, so if I want to ensure a perfect boot of Xenosaga, it'd probably be wise to get a Gameshark? Otherwise it'll be a bit chancy with the booting procedures?
