Won't give up on old ps2
Won't give up on old ps2 –
I 've already replaced this Ps2 version 3 with a more reliable dvd-r booting ver5. But when I have spare time , I just can't give up trying to make this old ps2 boot more reliable.
So if anybody is interested?
My latest discovery was that the ps2 was more reliable when it was cold , but as soon as it was on for a little while it would refuse to boot certain dvd-r's, not because of the game , I guess the back-up wasn't as good. Not booting meant just light clicking and then to the browser. So I would take the ps2 and stick in the freezer for 15 minutes and surprise it boot fine. Now this problem was only with booting not normal play, once the machine would boot it could be played for hours with no skipping or lockups. So I thought the mod ( magic2 ) was overheating . Out came the freeze spray, when I made the discovery that it wasn't the modchip. or nothing on the mother board. The ver3 has the laser controller chips on a small board mounted in the dvd/cd unit. after I frosted a couple of components this machine would boot all the dvd-r's that wouldn't go before. Now is anybody famillar with this board and some of the functions , I can try to photograph the components that I froze to get this thing to boot , I don't know , but this might lead to a solution to some of the problems the ver3 has or maybe it might just be unique to my machine , but anyway it gave me some satisfaction to get this old junker to work.
I joked about just porting a tube to the board and investing in a case of freeze spray , to boot certain games .The Freezing of these components are changing something just enough to give me a successful boot. Keep in mind this ,not all dvd-r's need this , just certain dvd-r's that seem to be lesser quality burns. I would like to figure out what and why, If anybody is interested or has knowledge of this board then l would try to take a picture.
