I've modded a v7 with a Duo2Se. The thing is that it wouldn't boot any original and backup games. But when I disable the modchip it boots originals. Checked all cables multiple times. After a while I tried replacing the laserunit.
Guess what? After replacing the laserunit the ps2 would boot original and backup games!!
So how is it possible that a ps2 with a "bad" laser will only boot originals after disabling the mod??

what kind of media are you using ???... always burn on good quality DVD-r or CD-r to make sure the laser dont choke on reading them...

    I'm using Verbatim -R
But it has to be something else. Because when I try an original game it doesn't boot. When I try the same game, but now I turn off the modchip, then it boots the game....

Maybe the laser needs adjusting for backup games?

I just explained that it doesn't even boot originals games. Only when I disable the modchip it will boot originals.
How can this be? Does the laser have more trouble booting games when a modchip is installed??

Tried treplacing the mod, that didn't help.
When I replaced the laser, the ps2 would backup and original games.. :S
That doesn't explain why the ps2 would only boot originals when I disabled the modchip..

    check bios points..

how do you start the games..

power on machine by presing eject and press power to close tray to boot games.
(this is a big miss .. some ppl don do this.. but on good media you can do direct boot.. bad media you have to press eject then power.)

if old laser can boot dvd-r o cd-r , check the white cogs.. and laser angle. this often do the trick.

The laser is on its last legs.

When the machine was not powering the modchip the laser had just about enough power to boot the originals, but when the modchip was on then the laser could not handle the originals and backups, it seems like the laser was not receiving enough power from the PS2 to boot the games!

Thats why when you added a much stronger laser into the machine then it had absolutly no problems booting the games!

The other laser was ready to die
