I feel like opening my PS2 and give it a little adjustment, but wanted to know something before:

When I turn the cog ClockWise does it "raise" the level parallel to the disk? or does it lower it? (on v7's) (i.e. the laser seems to be closer or farther to the disk?)

what are more or less the maximum clicks one should try form its original position?

Thanks again for your great help. Best regards

If you're just ''feeling'' like adjusting, I suggest you to wait until you have no other choice.

if it aint broke dont fix it. you have absolutely no reason to adjust that unless you're getting a lot of disc read errors and cleaning your discs and lens didnt work.

I was thinking of doing it because cd-r make a lot of noise, like grinding noise. I figure this sound might be the lens carrier moving really fast along the track, but wanted to test the cog adjustment to see if it got better. Saw somewhere this might fix it. Also some Psx cd-r boot only after several retries. I was wondering if the raising of the level would fix it. Thats why i wanted to know turning the cog which side would raise or lower the laser.

Can somebody shine some light on the real cause for cd-r making grinding noises? Ive seen several PS2 with this same scenario. Thank you again

All I can tell you is don't mess with anything if you don't need to otherwise you will end up with problem booting DVD or something
