Whats so good about the PS2 HDD

Please tell me about the HDD us the external one that came with the v0's the only on around? what are they good fo rloading? any good homebrew stuff? can u load game sonto them as on xbox? etc... thanks!

here's the lowdown:
you can speed up loading times for games
install games like ffxi or nubonaga online on the hdd to boot off in order to play online
you can use the net on the ps2 and download shit to the hdd
move memory card save files to the hdd...
umm... need i go on?

and i'm told by sjeep that there will be a series of homebrew software for the hdd very soon!

so i take it the us ethernet adapter wouldnt have these functions? also is it possible to get a hdd for an american ps2?

Not yet, but soon. Or in homebrew development....just wait and see.

so the jap ver0 (scph-10k,15k) is the only one that has a hdd atm (at the moment)?

V1-V9 has an internal hdd you can use.

Only JAP PS2 V0-V9, US FFXI Beta Testers, and US Linux Users have access to a HDD.

I know there are Japanese Linux Kits and I thought that Europe also finally got Linux Kits now. But for gaming purposes, only Japanese PS2s have access to HDDs, besides the US FFXI beta test.

radish: actually, the Beta FFXI HDD Kit Utility disc has leaked all over IRC, and if you buy an official japanese hdd and happen to grab it (assuming you have a mod ofcourse), then you can use it, Lloyd Oliver did that, and he's working out fine!
