what is it with v7 consoles?

I am really getting pissed of with chipping the v7 ps2's. Its one problem after another. I have had one pack up and die with a black screen that i gave to a mate a few weeks ago and another that has developed laser problems and now one that is working fine for 10 minutes then just giving a black screen. i am using messiah 2 pro v1.30 chips from so called reputable dealer. There has to be something sony has done to the v7 console or problems with the chips. My installs are 10 x better than they used to be but i am now having so many more problems.

The console i have just installed a chip in worked fine until i tested a start up where you turn the chip of and i tried to load a dvd-r dvd movie backup. It did not work so i turned it off and started it in the press and hold until blue light comes on mode and i just get a black screen. the console has not moved 1mm in this time. This has happened to me before where you have a console working perfect and you leave it for a day and dont even touch it and when you come back it gives you a black screen. You open it up, remove the power supply e.t.c. make sure everything looks in order and then re-assmeble it and it suddenly works again. what is the problem? is it dodgy messiah 2 pro chips. Is the messiah 2 pro really as compatible with the v7 as it is with v5 and v6?

Have sony moved the goal posts with these newer ps2's?

any thoughts gratefuly recieved.

Try using DMS3 instead, or buying M2 from some other dealer.

I too, have these kinds of experiences with v7 consoles. Especially the laser problem comes around a lot more often than it did on v5 or v6. The laser fries in a couple of weeks, and thats true for both magic, messiah2 and apple.

I have had the honour of repairing non modded v7's for a gameshop and they have like 3-4 v7s that show some really strange behaviours which seems to be mobo related. Laser is working fine in other units, but cant read dvd in the console from where it was taken (unmodded consoles). Laser does not emit light in dvd mode.

It seems like they just suck in general. Its a great thing that we have developed the hack called walmart swap.

I did notice some difference i have two v7s one with messiah2 pro and DMS and i can see the video on the messiah2 machine fricles distores wile booting games or dvd video and the dms3 my install. Boots everything like originals

i use nothing but dms3.20 i had one ps2 modded with apple 2 and the laser died in a week not even 5 hours of game play v7 console and i think magic chips are the sorryest chips ever

do you understand how a chip works, they patch data to remove checks that the ps2 has to authenticate a disk.
Magic chips shut off after about 30 seconds, they patch their data, and shut off. I believe that the apple chips do as well, so i don't understand how the chip would result in your dead lazer?

thats not what im saying at all. IM saying ether the lasers are just plum sorry or the ps2 has a change .

ok, thought you were saying the apple killed it so now you only use dms3's cuz all the others don't work....some lazers suck, i've bought ps2's that would not read dvd-r, even movies, even after 1hr of fiddling with the damn lazer

Well all I can say is the only station to ever die in my hands was a V7 with a Messiah2 installed - the Drive died instantly on power up... and yet replcing the drive with no change of chip and no change of wireing and it worked from then on!

So either the V7 lasers suck ass or the Messiah2's some time do nasty things...

the problem of the laser dying or BA chip dying due to modification happens with all modchips from what I can tell.

Then again, even unmodified machines sometimes have this problem.
