what is shorting out?
i hate posting these, but i have no resort.
v4 no gap GH-013
duo2SE
boots backup ps1 & cd-ps2 gmes fine, backup dvd-ps2 games go black then quickly shows browser "no data" then RSOD.
dvd games are on ritek G04 and working on another ps2.
the laser was initially at 998, went down to 900, and now 860 ohms and still no luck. turning the ps2 on its side or upside down does not help the reading of dvd-r's.
all points are verified with diagram provided from the sticky on the top of this forum.
im almost certain there are no solder balls near the bios, but you never know! ive gone over that area quite a few times. are there certain points that affect dvd booting but still allow cd-r's to boot?
where should i concentrate on?
ive installed a few mxl2's and none of them gave me any issues like the 2 duo2SE's ive been trying. am i just getting sloppy?

do origs work? and when reading dvdrs does it clikc?

Try iout my laser repair guide too if u want. www.mullets123.tk enter the site and then click on "Console Repair Guides" and u should be able to figure it out from there.

my mistake, original dvd games do not boot.
originals boot only with mod disabled.
lemme check the FAQ's, but in the mean time, tell me what you think it is.
BTW, the old forum had great troubleshooting guides and FAQ's for what to check if certain symptoms were present. i cant find that guide anymore.
upon further searching, it was charlies faq guide. hes no longer on this site, but wheres the guide. its an old guide, but very helpful.

If the laser makes more than two clicks, the disk will not load. That's because the duo2SE doesn't do the authentication properly in this case. And because of bad authentication, even originals will not load. With the chip disabled, the Playstation loads originals even if there are more than two laser clicks.
If you have more than two clicks, then it means your laser is on its way out. But if you try a better chip (like Messiah2) then the game will load even if you have multiple clicks. I'm not sure wich chips allow multiple clicks.

damn!
thanks for the explanation. that explains it all.
it definitly does 2 clicks, spins up, then stops, leading to the RSOD.
im not fond of these Duo2SE chips. would terry take some back in exchange for some mxl2's maybe?
