The Modbo V1.1 I could upgrade to V1.4b.

The Modbo V1.2 I could not upgrade to V1.4b.

    What caused the protection ?
How could I remove that protection ?

    Only serious posts please..............

You need to remove the eeprom chip, then using a programmer that supports the Saifun chip, you turn write protect off.

Or I believe you can simply lift the write protect pin (cant remember which pin it is, search the forums here as I posted a link to the datasheet), and then you could flash update using the cd as normal.

Although I personally would leave the chip at 1.38, as 1.39 and 1.40b brought nothing of any real interest, plus having the chip write protected would be very nice.

lifting the pin alone will not solve anything.

there is a need to make the pin active first by writing the chip.

The modbo 1.2 has the chip write protected by default, so the pin is active.
