    It's a v3.

magic 2 V3 would work. Your laser needs to be in good comdition for DVD-R.

If you really have a neo 2.5 it has to be a V4,V5 or V6

Domon, contrary to what charlie_ps2 said (sorry charlie), the Magic II DOES NOT WORK IN V3 CONSOLES!!!!!! Don't buy the piece of crap. And don't buy into the hype that if it does not work, it is the laser. It is not the laser, it is the crappy Magic II. Even after I replaced the laser in my v3, it still does not work properly. Avoid the Magic II like the plaque.

Charlie, I must ask...how many v3 consoles do you PERSONALLY know of that work with the Magic II???? I challange you to find more than 1 that you can personally verify that works flawlessly with the Magic II. Pardon my frustration, but based upon the opinions of the experts in the industry, many of us went for the Magic II only to be very disappointed. I have spent MANY MANY MANY hours on everything from laser adjustment to complete laser replacement to get this POS to work and it still does not. Yes, it works great on v4-7 consoles, but on the earlier consoles, CRAPPY!!!!

LOD has a thread on v3 Magic 2. read that stuff and form your own opinion. I won't try to influence you beyond saying that there are good and bad stories; you can come to your own conclusion as to the reason for the bad stories - I usually find them to be mis-installs or laser issues.

Lets be honest, Charlie, when you say you find them to be mis-installs or laser issues...can you personally verify that or did the person finally simply give up on trying to make the thing work (like I did)? I am only pushing this so hard to hopefully spare others some heartache and to maybe get mr magic to address the problem with the earlier consoles. Whether you believe it or not, most of us here take your opinion very seriously. At least from my point of view, I consider you to be one of the experts....so when you say good things about a chip, we as consumers actually do listen to what you say and make our decisions based on your expert opinion. Yeah, I know, it is ultimately my decision and you cannot be held responsible, but you are one of the experts so what you say carries alot more weight than what another person might say. I just want you to be totally honest in your responses when it comes the earlier consoles. You don't have to bag on the Magic II, but you don't have to recommend it either. It just seems that all the posts that you respond to asking about modchip advice for the earlier consoles end up with you recommending the Magic II.

Sorry, don't mean to vent on anyone in particular...I am just a frustrated customer (as I am sure there are many others).

At this point, I have no specific recommendations because I haven't tried anything else yet. For now, I just put my old Neo 2 back in (which works flawlessly, I might add) until I get some more comments from other users. Other options are available, though, and they include the X0, NH, Apple, Ultra2. I can't attest to the reliability of any of these mods so maybe if there are any others that have tried these...maybe they could give a little info.

Every time we install a Messiah class modchip, it works first time every time. That's because my famous 'mate round the corner' is a soldering whizzo. There are afew of those around, of course.

With those rare exceptions, everyone else who comes to this forum does so because they have mis-installed. This is across the PS2 range.

LOD is like my 'mate round the corner'. A whizzo. And he testifies to the v3s that work. It's all in these forums.

There are a few who give up and blame the Magic 2. Others give up and blame themselves (but they keep quiet usually).

That said, yes - spare the others the heartache. But advise then to get it done professionally. Indeed give your v3 to LOD to do.

As to asking me to be honest - well ....oh dear.
