what are the main causes of a burned BA chip on new ps2? –
i am wondering what could be the main causes of a dead BA chip on ps2?..i know the obvious #1 reason could be a bad install like over heating or shorts...so other then bad install...do brand new PS2 have the same problem...i mean could BA chip GO OUT on a new ps2 with out a mod ever installed inside? could power fluctuation from the wall outlet be a cause?
thanks for the help guys

i highly doubt that, as you said, a bad mod install would most likely cause the problem, especially with neo2, 2.2, etc. etc.
the reason i ask is because i know a guy who has tons of backups of original dvd-r movied that he own ...and he use his never moded/open ps2 to play them all the time... and after about 6 months his ps2 died(no blue light and eject)....ba chip gone(fried) and the lens coil(3.5ohm) also gone...so i think it is not just bad mod job that can do the damange...bad media cause the ba to go i think...like this threat said
so according to this thread even a perfect install can kill a ba chip after a while if the user of the moded ps2 do not use quality media.

thx... my left coil only has a reading of 2ohms.. the right one had an exact 5ohms
so i know its my laser which died, kinda evident, after looking at the last disk it played.. the disk had small circular scratches
like small ones (not complete circle)
and then i tried to put in an old v4 semi broken laser into it, and the fuse blows again... so i can pretty much conclude that both the laser and the ba5815 are bad... (pin 8 is nto grounded though)
even if i fixed my ba chip, i would need a new laser...
and even at that, there might be other problems i havnt uncovered...
ya....it (Ba chip) could be partially burnt....so try to replace both the laser and the BA chip ..or best ...sale ur broken ps2 and get a new one....you can probably get 50$-70$ for the broken ps2 that you have on ebay...good luck
I've never seen a ps2 'stuck in a loop' trying to focus. An unreadable disc is soon failed, I've had plenty of these when the parallax is set wrongly but I've never seen what is described. The BA chips do run hot, hence the heat transfer rubbery stuff betwen the chip and the metalwork. If you forget to replace this then failure of the BA chip is likely. I've never smelled burning from a laser unit coil or anywhere else for that matter.
yes but u can measure teh coil
i have done that with the laser
and yes its burnt...
(i measured 2 different lasers to make sure the info i found about burnt lasers online are legit)
same as my finding when i was fixing the dead (no blue light /eject) ps2....lens coil is the problem and caused the BA to pop
fluidmax, could u please email me...
Please tell me if u were able to fix your ps2 in the email..
maybe we can help each other out
