What the hell have I got? Help me identify my chip... –

Hi, I need some help in identifying what chip I have...
I currently own a 15000 jap machine (it's a bit old) and I had it re-modded (used to be swap with util cd - only played cd copies), but I don't know what chip they used!
It works fine, but it just bugs me that I don't know what's inside my machine!
So... is there any kind of test that I can do that differentiates between different chips? Like features and stuff? All I know at the moment is that the machine pretty much loads up anything I chuck at it (no swapping or anything).
Thanks

you may have either a neo chip (possibly neo2) or Bare JP Chip, depending on how you swap.
give a little more detail!

Well, it plays DVD silver, DVDR, cdr(PS2), ps1 originals (Jap ones) and I don't have to swap anything to get anything working.
I don't think that it's a Neo chip

hah, i misunderstood you before, i thought you swap.
uhh you may have an X0-2/10 Chip, Magic-III or Messiah2 but i am very unsure, if you check http://www.neoasic.com you'll find mod diagrams, see which ones have diagrams for your ps2 and list them here, i may be able to help you further.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not really wanting to open up my PS2... isn't there some way of operating the chip or features or something that will distinguish one from another?

yes, put a copied or import psx disc in, shut the ps2 and then start the ps2 holding reset until the electrons show up on the screen, if it boots, you have X0-2/10, if not, then Messiah2/Magic-III or similar.
btw i didnt tell ya to open the ps2, i asked you to list the chips thAt are compatible with it!

I'll try that tonight I think. If you want to know from that site, there is only one chip that is compatible and that's the messiah.
As far as I know, there aren't many chips I could possibly have... Most chips don't seem to be compatible with the 15000 for some reason. The ones that I know are:
Either -
Messiah 1
Messiah 2
Magic 3.1

ok, but i doubt its one of those, its most likely to be an X0 Chip, i'll look into it for ya.

Thanks, also, one thing. I think that I read before that something about the Messiah 2 being the only chip able to boot from the browser screen?
What type are we talking about here? CDR? DVDR? or legit games only? or the whole lot?
If that works on mine, then it must mean that I have a Messiah 2 right? or wrong?

very true, it applies with CDR, DVDR, And Legit Games, But ALL Chips Can Detect PSX CDR, Imports, DVD Movies And Legit Local Games.
