What does a modchip for PS2 allow you to do?

I am an avid Xbox modder, and I know the myriad of possibilities that modding an XBOX does. What does modding a PS2 allow you to do? Is it similar to Xbox or limited? I have a old PS2 that I am thinking of modding, but I would like to know the advantages of modding before I proceed.
Thanks in advance.

Well you can run homebrews, but the only homebrew really worth having is HDLoader (to run games off a harddrive). And of course you can play backups :P
But if your only interested in HDLoader, you might want to check out the MC Exploit (also called Memory Card Exploit, Indy Exploit or Independance Day Exploit). This will let you load HDL by running a certain PS1 game, which will trigger a buffer overflow and run a homebrew of your choosing off the memory card.
The MC Exploit only works on fat v1-v10 PS2s. The DM S4Pro chip has an improved version of HDL built into its interface, which you might find more convenient.

not to be mean but there's a search feature which can get you a lot of information... or google...it's more of "which brand/kind offers what" kinda thing...Some chips offers more while others offers less...and then there's the price difference...
I suggest searching google for all the kinds of chip the ps2 offer...then look at it's features and whatnot...after that, come back and ask questions about any specific chip you would like to know...who knows...someone might already have answered it already too....
Good luck finding a chip...

Check my bros site...it's simple but get the message across...IMPORT LOVERS...CAR THAT IS...

Wasn't really looking for modchip advice. Was looking for a more general idea of what modding brings to the table for PS2.
I do use the search feature, but is not the most intuitive searching I have seen.
