You don't have to worry about laser problems down the road with newer ps2s. You can sell your old ps2 and get a new one with a good laser for about $30 more. To me that is definately worth it.

Ebay. That is what I did. I sold my v1 with 5 old games I never played anymore for $285 and bought a brand new ps2 at Target for $200.

what is wrong with the DMS3? I think it's a great chip also and the only compaling I ever here is it costs more... Some people would think the 5$ to $20 extra is well spent for devolution mode and the POSSIBILITY that a flash upgrade might save some $$$ down the road you knever know what might happen.

You can't ask which is the best mod unless you are prepared to accept somebodies personal opinion.

I'd say the Messiah2 was the best mod if it wasn't so expensive. But, it is so I won't!

DMS3 is no where near Messiah2. Its also only about $35 and proven, as well as always updated. The only reason to update the dms3 is to fix problems with the mod itself. By the time we may need the flash updating, PS3 will be out... You might want the Devolution mode...but for what? All the things that use it are either availible on a disc-only version already or...are completely useless to normal consumers. IMO the M2 is the best for the masses.

As for the whole 'saving a few bucks down the road' thing, I'll apply that to the v1-3 argument - its cheaper to sell your v1-3 and buy a new PS2 than to: A) put up with a nosier laser, B) possibly have to replace a laser (try it some time), C) try to install a mod on a console that has the minature (even for a ps2) dvd controller pins.
