Hi all, i have a wierd issue now with my M2. I had it professionally install about a month ago into my v4R/5 console. Backups and originals played great. A couple of days ago , it started to not boot backups, it would just hang on the electron screen with the "music" or ocean sound...whatever it is continuing to play. If i try to boot an original it boots just fine. I eventually got Backups to boot by tilting the console at an angle while it was booting, and then laying it back down. it would play perfectly the whole time after that. Its odd. I wouldnt think its a laser issue , because i lay it back to the horizontal position and it works great loads the the different parts of the game with no lag. Plus my unit is not even a year old, i got it last February. ive been using Verbatim DVD-R's as well. seems wierd to me, anyone got any ideas?. Some Feedbak would be Greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Loose wire. Seems weird that it would boot when you tilt it, maybe there is a loose wire issue.

These are tricky problems and are frequently reported. Tilting the console changes the laser position by microns which is enough to improve focus for DVD-Rs.

This suggests to me that Laser Azimuth needs adjusting. There is a guide on this forum for that in the FAQ. Now that's not definitive but it fits the facts presented.

Ok Update: i noticed i was just a coincidence that it loaded when i tilted it up, it still loads DVD-R's but i have try a few times, do you still think it to be a laser issue, originals still boot perfectly, i dont want to open and adjust nothing in there since i really dont know what i would doing in there, thats why i had it professionally installed.

Yes I do. You are altering the effects of gravity by microns. Do the DVD-Rs have labels on them? That is a potential reason for the small variance in parallelism to the lens. If not, then laser azimuth might need adjusting.

I understand your reluctance to open it up and if your installer is a true pro, then he/she will understand what has been explained here.

No i never put labels on DVD-R's had enough trouble with them back in the PS1 days. I guess ill have to try to bring it to the shop i had it installed in and have them check it out. I just find it really odd how it was booting with no problems one day and all of a sudden this on the next. Thanks for the help though
