Weird chip and no PSx playability...
Weird chip and no PSx playability... –

So a few years back i got a PS2, played some games, got bored with it and put it away. I got it back out a few months ago, still brand new and everything. Decided i'd get a few PSx games such as Twisted Metal (1, 2 and 3). I burned them at 8x (my burner can't go any slower). But i don't even get to the PS logo, i usually get a black screen, or a red screen that says "Please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc" or just a looping red screen.
My bios is ToxicBios and my chip is MarsPro (just finished putting the ps2 back together after some cleaning).
EDIT: forgot to write that its a slim, not a fat ps2.

I can't remember what wire(s) cause this although I do recall dealing with the same issues on some installs. As a precaution I would check all the solder points for any bridging or loose joints. I hope this helps.
For example, on many diagrams I believe the wires for the BIOS were MNOP. Make sure those pins are not bridged.

According to your pictures and Mars website, the wire which is responsible for enable PS1 is "K" and it is correctly connected.
However, according to this compatibility media table, your Mars can't run PS1 backups neither from CD-R nor pressed, only originals.

Honestly, I dunno.
But you may try with uLaunchELF program, there is a subprogram within it that can execute PS1 games ("MISC>>PS2DISC"). Try it with the newer uLe's versions as the 4.42.
