weird CD drive behaviour
weird CD drive behaviour –

I have just installed a matrix MXL2 in a v5/6 ps2 (SCPH 30003 R), which boots up etc, to the browser screen OK, but whenever I put in a CD/DVD (original or copy) the CD drive just rotates about a tenth of a turn 5 times and then stops. The browser screen just continues to show "Reading disc" even though nothing is happening. I'm pretty sure it's not the chip itself which is at fault as it was in another ps2 (v7) before and worked fine. Does anyone know what points/wires that could cause this? Could the cd/dvd drive in the PS2 be broken?

I'm guessing the vias and the bios chip points.

I think that rotating and then stopiing is clearly a CD,DVD points problem.Chech them again with a magnifying lens...

well,i checked all the points and they seem fine. I then changed the mxl2 with an o2mod, and only soldered the bios wires to it. The drive still behaves the same, but now i have noticed that after I leave it for about 10-20 seconds on the browser/system config screen the drive spins up and will act normally, play originals fine, etc. I'm going to try a different v5 cd drive in it to see if that works...
